    The health educator will lead and collaborate with regional healthcare providers to deliver programs that address topics such as tobacco prevention and cessation, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, the HPV vaccine and cervical cancer prevention, the importance of early detection and screening for all cancers, participation in clinical trials, as well as continuing medical education for healthcare professionals on the latest cancer research/guidelines and statewide priorities. The health educator will ensure our programs are distributed widely and equitably across our 18 county region. This position will report to the President/CEO and work with the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition team.
     
    Required qualifications:
    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in relevant field or relevant work experience
                equivalent. (health education, social work, care management, etc.)
    • 1-2 years of experience
    • Spanish bi-lingual/multilingual ability preferred
    • Understand design, implementation, and evaluation of health education promotion programs
    • Basic knowledge of promotion, marketing, and media communications in a health education
                program;
    • Perform effective public speaking to groups of varied interests and backgrounds;
    • Develop and deliver informative and persuasive presentations;
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies, organizations, and
                partner representatives;
    • Collect data and research and analyze statistics;
    • Computer skills demonstrating the ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, as
                well as proficiency with regular and frequent communication through e-mail and the
                Internet;
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
    • Ability to learn and use a web-based reporting program for completing on-line reports;
                Recordkeeping and reporting procedures.
    • High degree of independence, flexibility, initiative, and commitment
    • Demonstrated awareness and value of cultural competence
     
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assist in the development and implementation of tobacco control program goals, objectives
                and activities.
    • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of tobacco use prevention programs, health promotion
                campaign strategies and education programs; and administer evaluation tools.
    • Assist in the preparation of tobacco grant proposals and grant budget development including
                the research and preparation of background information and statistics
    • Build, support and sustain community partners for local tobacco prevention policy initiatives,
                leadership, and messaging for expanded outreach capacity.
    • Coordinate tobacco use prevention/cessation education program activities with coalition
                partners, outside agencies, local schools, industries, and other non-profit organizations.
    • Advocate for tobacco prevention policy and programs by conducting public education
                presentations to a variety of groups and organizations.
    • Participate in various committees and boards related to cancer prevention activities and
                educations; represent the agency and provide accurate information regarding the
                NWGRCC and its resources.
    • Build and maintain community partners for regional educational programs and initiatives,
                leadership, and messaging for expanded outreach capacity.
    • Collaborate with other community health agencies and organizations on promotional
                campaigns and partner in health education programs and services.
    • Maintain program statistics and prepare reports in accordance with grant and/or program
                reporting requirements.
    • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, which include Joint
                Commission (JC) standards, Patient Safety initiatives, Patient Rights, and Health
                Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy standards.
    • Attend cancer committee and advisory meetings to support overall program
                implementation and evaluation.
     
    Salary Range: $35K - $38k commensurate with education and experience. Additionally the
    NWGRCC provides a comprehensive package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement,
    and leave benefits
