    The purpose of this classification is to supervise assigned staff and inmates, operate multiple pieces of equipment, and perform manual work functions associated with the maintenance of signs and striping on County roads and property. 
    • Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of inmates, employees, and other individuals.
    • Flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs, and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public.
    • Supervises and/or drives or operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in road, bridge and roadside construction and maintenance, including a transport vehicle, weed eater, paint machine, sign fabrication machine, tamp, fuel pump, chain saw, air compressor, shovel, rake, paint sprayer, construction tools, concrete tools, mechanics tools, etc.
    • Drives and operates in a safe and efficient manner under various conditions, including day/night hours, in congested traffic, and in adverse weather conditions.
    • Creation and installation of signs and striping according to federal regulations.
    • Supervises and/or conducts pre and post-trip inspections, including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, and tires.
    High School Diploma or G.E.D. and three (3) years of experience in road construction/maintenance, equipment operation or related field. Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain and maintain  a valid Correctional Officer Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
