Did You Know that 77% of today’s drug users are employed? Employee substance abuse and addiction contributes to many of the today’s significant workplace challenges. For a small business, drug abuse can mean absenteeism, reduced productivity, and a lack of quality that ultimately causes the business reputation to suffer.
“Drugs Don’t Work” is a certified drug-free workplace program that helps small businesses put a drug policy in place. The program is run by the Council on Alcohol and Drugs of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce offers “Drugs Don’t Work” as a free membership benefit. Simply contact the Chamber for a free packet to get started.
Insurance Discount: Aside from protecting your small business from liability, businesses that complete the “Drugs Don’t Work” certification process are eligible for a 7.5% discount on worker’s compensation insurance. Can you afford not to participate in this free program?
Steps to Becoming a Certified Drug-Free Workplace:
- Have a Written Substance Abuse Policy Statement
(A template is provided in the program materials.)
- Conduct Limited Drug Testing
(You may limit testing to certain job positions.)
- Complete Employee Education
(Monthly newsletters are provided by the Chamber.)
- Complete Supervisor Training
(This can be completed in-house. Videos are provided.)
- Have an Employee Assistance Program
(This can consist of a resource list of counselors.)
It’s Easy! Becoming a certified drug-free workplace really is a very simple process. The “Drugs Don’t Work” program guides you through every step, and all materials are provided. A sample drug policy statement is even included! Contact the Chamber, and a Chamber staff person will meet with you one-on-one to guide you through each step.
