    Job Description
    ADAMS has Controller position available at Corporate Office in Rome.  The Controller is primarily responsible for providing timely and accurate financial information to management as well as leadership and coordination of Company financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions. The position will work independently and will apply professional financial concepts and techniques dedicated to developing, implementing, testing and evaluating accounting procedure and policies for the Company.
    This position will also ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.  The Controller manages the year-end audit, budget preparation, and is responsible for maintaining policies and procedures for area.

    Frequent contact with Executive Management for discussion on budgets, forecasts, finances and banking relationships. Contact with banking personnel in regards to account balances and payments due. Contact with outside audit firm in preparation for annual audit.
    Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
    • Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
    • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the Company.
    • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
    • Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.
    • Oversee daily operations of the finance and accounting department and personnel.
    • Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses.
    • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
    • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
    • Work with Directors and other corporate staff to develop long range business plans.
    • Establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
    • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department’s goals and objectives.
    • Serve on planning and policy-making committees.
    • Direct financial audits and provide for a system of internal controls that provides for both the protection of assets and the accurate reporting of performance to management.
    • Conduct an effective tax management program that includes all segments of the company.  Ensure that policies and procedures provide for compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to taxes.
    • Provide financial information necessary for stock evaluation analysis.
    • Maintain required bookkeeping and records for the Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
    • Maintain required bookkeeping and records for 401K Plan
    • Direct the administration of the financial, negotiation, and reporting aspects of the Company bonds, casualty insurance, liability insurance, and retirement plans.
    • Represent the company externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, and the general public.
    • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.
    • Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff.

    Bachelors degree in Accounting from four-year college or university.

    Five to seven years’ experience in direct accounting within a corporate environment.

    Knowledge and skill of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP): This includes the ability to apply GAAP principles and determine compliance with the principles.  Ability to compare data from various data sources and identify inconsistencies or variances.   Ability to analyze financial data (e.g. validity of data including balance sheet account balance, P&L variance, volume trends, return on investments). This includes creating spreadsheets, explaining variances, identifying issues, and making appropriate recommendations.  Knowledge of basic accounting principles (e.g. debit and credit) around transactional processes (e.g. accruals, benefit plans, marketing programs).

    Special Skills/Equipment 
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience with Accounting software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.   Ability to define and resolve issues. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    Ability to safeguard confidential information.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must have attention to detail and be able to work independently.   Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks in a dynamic fast-paced environment.  Self starter and possess effective time management skills to increase efficiently and productivity.
    Experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and federal and state financial regulations.  Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.  Experience with short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets and product-line profitability analysis.
    Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.  Ability to participate in and facilitate group meeting.
    This is normally acquired  through a combination of the completion of a Masters Degree in Finance or Accounting, five to seven years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position and a CPA.
    Position requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
