Berry College, founded in 1902 in a one room log cabin by Ms. Martha Berry, is now a 28,000 acre liberal arts college recognized as one of America's best colleges by Peterson's Guide to Competitive Colleges, U.S. News & World Report, Money magazine, and The New York Times. With an average enrollment of 2,000 from across the United States and 28 countries, Berry emphasizes academic (head), religion-in-life (heart) and practical work experience (hands). This threefold mission is as valid today as it was at the turn of the century. In a four-year period, approximately 93% of students will work on campus at least 10 hours per week. Berry can be found in the top-tier of national liberal arts colleges identified by U.S. News and World Report in its annual listing of "America's Best Colleges." Shorter College works to foster within their students the desire to "live, learn, and lead". Shorter is a private four-year, co-educational, liberal arts college, established in 1873. Over the past 10 years, 77% of medical students, 91% of pharmacy students, and 100% of natural science students attending Shorter have been accepted to the graduate school of their choice.Shorter College has responded to the needs and demands for healthcare professionals by adding a nurising program. Also, more than 1,700 adults are taking advantage of Shorter's Professionals Studies programs, which are non-traditional courses specifically designed for working adults. Georgia Northwestern Technical College was established in July 2009 from the merger of Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) and Northwestern Technical College (NTC). For over 45 years, both CVTC and NTC have been instrumental in providing quality workforce education to the citizens of Northwest Georgia. The tradition of excellence in workforce education will continue through Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC). With an annual credit enrollment of 8,200 students, GNTC is the largest college in Northwest Georgia and the fifth largest technical college in the state of Georgia.
