Berry College, founded in 1902 in a one room log cabin by Ms. Martha Berry, is now a 28,000 acre liberal arts college recognized as one of America's best colleges by Peterson's Guide to Competitive Colleges, U.S. News & World Report, Money magazine, and The New York Times. With an average enrollment of 2,000 from across the United States and 28 countries, Berry emphasizes academic~head, religion-in-life~heart, and practical work experience~hands. This threefold mission is as valid today as it was at the turn of the century. In a four-year period, approximately 93% of students will work on campus at least 10 hours per week.
A two-year college of the University System of Georgia, Georgia Highlands College offers over 200 associate degrees while specializing in the areas of education, business, and nursing. Floyd College was one of the first colleges in the nation to place a laptop in the hands of each student. Recognized by Bill Gates as one of the first three colleges to properly use technology, Floyd College continues to enhance the education of their students through the use of technology.
Shorter College works to foster within their students the desire to "live, learn, and lead". Shorter is a private four-year, co-educational, liberal arts college, established in 1873. They offer 8 bachelor degree programs and 10 pre-professional programs. Over the past 10 years, 77% of medical students, 91% of pharmacy students, and 100% of natural science students attending Shorter have been accepted to the graduate school of their choice.
Founded in 1962 though community efforts, Coosa Valley Technical College serves over 7,000 students annually though day, evening, and off-campus credit, noncredit, and adult education programs. They work to provide all citizens with education and training that will enable them to compete successfully for employment in the business, medical and industrial communities. Approximately 90% of their students will attend classes through the assistance of HOPE scholarships.
HOPE - Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally - is Georgia's unique scholarship program that rewards students' hard work with financial assistance in degree, diploma, or certificate programs at any eligible Georgia public or private college, university or public technical institute.
Rome-Floyd County Library - Built in 1988 on 7 ½-acres of grounds and gardens, this 75,000 square foot building houses 250,000 books, special collections and audio/visual resources.
